Staff Development & Student Placements
Our ethos is that people grow plants, and it is our Team here at Walberton which is responsible for the growth and success of our business.
Staff receive a full induction, followed by a probationary period during which newly acquired skills are assessed and recorded. Our appraisal process highlights training requirements and many of our staff undertake day courses and vocational qualifications. We have experts with skills as diverse as tractor and forklift truck driving; abrasive wheels and welding; grafting and rooting cuttings; and specialists in Crop Protection.
We actively support the West Sussex Nursery Stock Discussion Group and are members of the West Sussex Growers Association and professional bodies such as the IPPS who all offer great training and development opportunities. Most of our new recruits come from the local community, including some who originally came from Poland and other European Union countries, all now having made West Sussex their home.
Over the years horticulture students have taken their placements here from colleges in the UK, France, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.
