Nursery Aerial View
The nursery is a combination of heated and unheated glasshouses, polytunnel structures and open standing ground.
Open Standing Ground
The plants are spaced on to a dark "Mypex" matting which suppresses weeds while still allowing water to get through. There is an overhead irrigation system.
In-house Construction Work
This illustrates the building of the current propagation glasshouse in 1988 showing the heated floor being made.
Despatch
The Loading Bay, constructed by our own staff, containing trollies full of Spiraea Magic carpet ready to be despatched.
Potting
The potting machine fills each pot with compost and fertiliser, creating a hole for the small plant or plug to be inserted by the operator. The machine on the right breaks up the large bales of compost to ensure the compost is uniform.
Propagation
The majority of Walberton products are propagated vegetatively by cuttings. The cuttings are stuck in to plug trays and rooted under plastic cloches to maintain high humidity levels. The heated floor provides year round warmth.
Labelling of Verbena
The label is inserted before despatch to provide the customer with prices and care instructions.
